BENITACHELL Costa Blanca

BENITACHELL is a small town (large village!) by comparison with most of its neighbours. However that does not detract from the wide range of facilities it offers in a clean, modern, hospitable environment. Each Wednesday there is the local market selling locally grown produce located next to the very small indoor market, which is open on most weekdays. In and around the town a wide range of sports facilities, including golf, sailing, horse-riding, swimming, tennis are available. Centuries ago the town was founded by Arab settlers, and served as a stopping place for travellers in the region. The town is situated on high ground, and if you stand in the right place you will have a view of the sea in two different directions.

Although the town is quite small, the built-up area covers only a minor portion of the terrain which comes under its jurisdiction. A large part of the land of Benitachell under its control sweeps upward to become part of the enormous headland known as Cumbre del Sol, an area of rocky outcrops and heathland frequently seen with its head in the clouds. Here, where the land meets the sea lies some of the most beautiful, wild scenery in the whole of Spain. The rugged coast lapped by sparkling blue water hides tranquil coves, dark caves and sandy beaches, many isolated and reachable only by water.
